Croatian triathlon season starts this Saturday with an olympic distance race on the island of Korčula. This was the birthplace of Marco Polo so the race carries his name, Marco Polo Challenge. It’s almost a tradition that our season starts on this island and it’s also almost a tradition that it attracts very strong field. This year won’t be an exception. All of our strongest competitors are on the start list as well as very strong contingent from Hungary. Hungarians took the win in the past 2 editions so maybe it’s time to stop them before this becomes tradition as well :).
This will be my third time racing on Korčula. On the first occasion in year 2011 I finished in 4th place and in year 2013 I took the last step on the podium. Let’s hope this race is still there in 2017 :). It’s been a while since I raced a draft-legal race. In fact my last draft-legal race was Korčula 2 years ago. That’s why I don’t know what to expect, except for 2 hours of pain.
