Past weekend I traveled to Montenegro for the first time to race second edition of olympic distance triathlon in their capital, Podgorica. Triathlon is a new sport there. Their triathlon federation was established only few months ago. Despite that, the race was organized at surprisingly high level and I hope I’ll be able to return next year.
We had a non wetsuit swim in a river. This was my first non wetsuit swim after Vichy in 2012, but it went well and I got out in first group with two more guys.
I made small acceleration straight after transition and got a small gap. This was a chance to solve the race before the run so I pushed on. The gap grew steadily and by the second transition I had 3:30 min lead.
Gap was big enough not to push myself to the limit on the run. I managed to increase my lead by another 2:30 min and got a comfortable win.
This was a good test for ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship in Motala in two weeks. I’m happy with my current shape and I can’t wait to race again.
