First big race of the season is just around the corner. Tomorrow I’ll toe the line at Ironman African Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The race has continental championship status, which means more points, more prizemoney and stronger competition.
My main goal for the season is to qualify for Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. I need around 2,000 points more. Fifth place here is worth that many points. I’ll race Ironman Nice regardless of the outcome here, but I’d like to secure the qualification as soon as possible.
Bike course changed from last year and it’s flater. It was windy in the past few days but forecast calls for very little wind and temperature close to 30 degrees. I’d preferr more hills and/or wind to break the groups but it is what it is.
Pro men start at 6:30 and live video coverage will be available at ironman.com.
