In the next two weekends I have two races coming up. This Saturday I’m racing Keszthely triathlon in Hungary and in the week after Ironman 70.3 Pescara. Keszthely is half-ironman distance event and from what I heard the level of organisation is very good. The level of competition last year was quite high and it looks like this year it will be even higher. Training has been going well lately and I’m looking forward to test the legs on the race course again.
You can always judge how happy I am with my race by the amount of time it goes from it to the report. Obviously, I’m not very happy with Ironman 70.3 Aix. I hope it was just a bad day and not a more serious problem.
The swim went ok. I haven’t lost too much time, but on the other hand, there was way too many guys in front of me. During the first half of the bike I felt pretty good. Not sure how good you can feel while pushing your limits, but I felt like I’m riding well and the power numbers were not too bad either. During the second half of the ride someone shouted that I’m 10 minutes behind the leader. I didn’t feel so good any more.
After disappointing first 2 legs, I wanted to have a good run. First lap was ok and when I wanted to pick it up in the second lap I got a stitch in my stomach that forced me to jog. That stitch stayed there until the end of the race.
I was much more happy with the video then the race
First chance to check if Aix was just a bad day comes this Sunday. I’m racing Croatian championship in middle distance triathlon in Petrcane. Two years ago I won Croatian championship in olympic distance triathlon there, so I hope I’ll still have only good memories of that place after this weekend.
Since the race in Taiwan didn’t go so well my next race will be a bit sooner than initially planned. I’m racing Challenge Rimini in 10 days. Here’s the schedule for the first part of the season:
April 19th Challenge Taiwan
May 11th Challenge-half Rimini
May 19th Ironman 70.3 Barcelona
June 15th Challenge-half Kraichgau
June 29th Chiemsee Triathlon
July 20th Challenge Roth
Here’s a provisional race schedule for this year:
- March 23rd Cross duathlon Zagreb (national championship)
- April 27th Marco Polo Challenge, Korčula (olympic triathlon, draft legal)
- May 19th Challenge Barcelona (ITU European Championship half-ironman distance)
- June 1st ITU long distance triathlon World Championship, Belfort, France
- June 9th Titans ETL, Zagreb
- July 14th Challenge Roth
- September 1st Challenge Vichy (ITU European Championship, ironman distance)
- September 22nd Porec triathlon (national championship, half-ironman distance)
Main goal for this year is to prolong the stipend I get from my national federation. To do so I need to place in top6 at European Championships or in top8 at World Championship. There’s one more option through ITU long distance rankings, but I’d like to secure the stipend directly.
I’ll also go back to Roth where I had my best race so far in 2011. There’s a lot of races to choose from at the moment which is good but has its downside as well. It’s not easy to prove yourself with all those races going on. Roth and Frankfurt are probably the only races in Europe in which good result gets noticed.
Porec triathlon is a new race in which I’d like to take part but it’s not long after Vichy so I still have to make final decision about that one. It would be good to prolong the season a little bit. Race options in Europe are limited to Challenge Barcelona which is also not long after Vichy. I don’t have the budget to race on other continents, but who knows, maybe I start earning some prize money by autumn.
